Since there was neither a Lutheran church nor an Episcopal church in Jefferson County, Tenn., local ministers of the two denominations, the Rev. Louis Oats, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Mark Neville, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - both of Morristown, Tenn. - in an atmosphere of local and churchwide ecumenical cooperation, helped bring about the formation of St. Barnabas Episcopal-Lutheran Worshiping Community. It held its first service on June 8, 2000.
